Food Bank & Shelter Donations

We are so fortunate to have a community of farm vendors who give generously to our ‘gleaning program’. Each week volunteers from St. Monica’s Church Friends of the Needy program and Mercer Island Youth and Family Service’s (MIYFS) Food Pantry collect donated produce which quickly adds up to hundreds of pounds of fresh and healthy food for local food banks, shelters and individuals.

2014 was a great season for gleaning at the market with the total pounds of produce donated by our farmers weighing in at 2,104 lbs!

A special thanks to Isabel Jamerson, who set up the gleaning program ‘Market to Pantry’ , in 2009 when she was in middle school. She graduated in 2014 after 5 years of collecting donated food from the MIFM and transporting it to the MIYFS Food Pantry.  The program continues thanks to MIFM volunteers.
